4 SHS Cheerleaders & 2 Others Killed in Car Crash

Michael Grider of WVLT (Volunteer TV Channel 8) received a phone call from Shirley Phelps-Roper, a prominent member of Westboro Baptist Church. She told him they had decided to picket the school instead of the funerals.

I can't help but wonder if perhaps some of them have been watching the internet commentary and begun to get a sense of just how unfortunate their experience could have been had they even approached one of the funerals. I wish I could attribute it to a stunted, lingering sense of propriety and decency -- you know, such as even "lower" primates posses -- but I doubt it; they've made it clear that they have none. After all, their picket schedule calls the four dead cheerleaders "stiff-necked, rebellious whores of Tennessee." Anyone who feels justified in saying that ought to have the stones to stand in front of the grieving fathers and repeat it to their faces. Cowards.

I'm living in Knoxville now, and I just found out last night through MySpace that WBC might be coming to Scott Co. The funerals aren't on their picket schedule, but they are planning to be at SHS on Friday, November 7th, from 2:45 to 3:30.

While I know they're merely attention whores and would love nothing more than a confrontation, I couldn't live with myself if I didn't give them one. They need to know that we won't stand for this. We (my fiance and roommate and I, all graduates of OHS) have been making phone calls all morning, trying to get people organized. I've got Friday off, and if I have to, I'll go alone. We're going to try to get some people from Knoxville to come with us if we can.

We've been throwing around a lot of different plans that range from pointing and laughing to singing to looking menacing while wearing shirts that read "You're not in Kansas anymore". If anyone has any ideas/insights, let me know. If you want to come with us, drop me a line.

We're working on some ideas, the shirts are our best so far. We just need to let them know that we won't stand for this kind of insult. Hopefully there won't be much media coverage there- it'll just be more of what they want. I don't know where they'll be picketing at SHS- don't they need some sort of permission from the school to be on its grounds? I'm sure they won't be hard to miss, though.

Anyone know how close you're allowed to be to protesters? I'll be bringing a tape measure.

The protesting of these idiots sounds great to me. The t-shirt idea is awesome . . . put a rainbow on mine. I'm gonna talk to some of my friends in Knoxville and see if they'll come up to join us. They make one move towards us, they'll see that a fag can knock their asses over the rainbow back into Kansas. It makes me so angry that they would use the deaths of these children to promote their bigotry. And to call them whores? These people are sick. I hope theres a special place in hell reserved for these nuts. I have heard that they are already in town. An employee at McDonalds said they have been coming in all day. 2 bus loads. Anyone else hear anything like that?

For those of you looking for shirts and/or signs, hit up Trophy Masters, they do a great job.

As far as I know, they aren't allowed to picket on school grounds, but they can go right up to the fences.

I've never considered myself to be all that religious, but I have met many wonderful christians, and a real christian or someone who believes them self to be close to God, would never act this way.

The t-shirts do sound like a great idea! I have been making many phone calls today and gathering up a group also. So, I indeed plan to be there.

I have thought about making/wearing a t-shirt that says "Fag enabler," and of course make my own lil signs to hold up for the "haters" to see!

You're right, they're not in Kansas and we won't stand for their BS here!! They must be truly evil people to even think about doing this here, to the families/friends of those beauiful young ladies, to try and disgrace those girls at all.. how dare them!!!!
